[ARCHIVED] Community Center Tennis Courts Closure for Rehabilitation

Three of the four tennis courts at the Glenwood Springs Community Center will be closed for full-scale rehabilitation beginning August 4, 2022. Courts 1, 2, and 3 will be closed for approximately three months while crews convert asphalt to post-tension concrete.

To facilitate construction, there will be a pedestrian detour around the front of the Community Center to the rear of the Community Center. Pedestrians and bicyclists should follow posted signage. Additionally, the northeast Community Center parking lot will be used as a temporary construction staging area.

Temporary tennis lines will be added to the courts at the end of this year's work and crews will return in 2023 to paint. Next year court 4 will be resurfaced and painted with both Tennis and Pickleball lines. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

For racquet sport players, court 4 at the Community Center, the courts at Sayre Park and the Veltus park court will remain open for public drop-in. Reservations for USTA match play will be required at least two weeks in advance. Intermittent closures of court 4 may be required for safety. For additional court guidelines, visit https://www.glenwoodrec.com/208/Guidelines.

A special thank you to the Conservation Trust Fund for funding these improvements through a Great Outdoors Colorado allocation for outdoor recreation use.

Court Construction Timeline and Improvements

  • Phase 1 (late July/August to November 2023) - Complete replacement of post-tension concrete tennis, asphalt removed and new fencing for courts 1-3; temporary tennis lines will be added on 1-3 at the end of Phase 1
  • Phase 2 (Spring 2023, as weather permits) - Finish courts 1-3 with permanent lines, resurface court 4 (existing post-tension concrete), stripe court 4 with tennis and pickleball lines

Impacts

Courts 1, 2, and 3 will be closed for the approximately three-month duration of phase 1.
